Locate the Tool Kit and Spare Tire

In every new VW car, the spare tire is situated under the cargo floor. The toolkit is also under the cargo floor alongside the spare. The kit includes a jack, a wheel-bolt wrench, and a hook tool. 

Remove the Wheel Bolt Covers

Use the hook tool to pry off each bolt cover. If your wheels have hubcaps instead, remove them with the hook tool as well. Make sure to put these in your pocket right away — as our Arlington, TX VW dealers will attest, these caps have a habit of getting lost.

Loosen the Wheel Bolts

Use the wrench in a counterclockwise motion to loosen, but not completely remove, the wheel bolts. 

Raise the Vehicle

Locate the designated jack point in the wheel well. This point is usually marked by an arrow near the side skirt. Place the jack under the jack-point and raise the vehicle until the flat tire is approximately six inches off the ground. 

Remove the Flat Tire

Fully unscrew the already loosened bolts and then remove the flat tire by pulling it straight toward you. 

Install the Spare Tire

Line up the spare tire with the wheel bolts and push it onto the wheel hub. Hand-tighten the bolts in a star pattern to ensure even pressure. 

Lower the Car and Tighten the Wheel Bolts

Use the jack to lower the vehicle until the spare touches the ground. Then use the wrench to fully tighten the bolts in the same star pattern as before. When the bolts are tight, remove the jack.
