Being aware of your Volkswagen synthetic oil capacity is important whether you’re performing DIY maintenance or checking your recommended maintenance schedule. The certified technicians at Hiley Volkswagen of Arlington recommend using the specification for your model, model year, and engine rather than assuming that every Volkswagen car takes the same amount of oil. This is what you need to know about synthetic oil in Volkswagen models.

How Much Synthetic Oil Does Your Volkswagen Model Require?

There isn’t a single oil capacity number that applies across the entire Volkswagen model lineup. Instead, the correct answer will depend on the engine, and capacities can change between model generations and years. If you’re wondering about your specific vehicle, you can begin the search for information in your owner’s manual.

You can also contact a Volkswagen service department technician with your model and model year to help identify the proper capacity and specific synthetic oil type. When we perform an oil change at Hiley Volkswagen of Arlington, the technicians will use vehicle-specific service information rather than relying on a generic capacity.

Oil quantity isn’t the only thing that matters. Volkswagen engines have requirements for the type and specification of engine oil used, so buying any synthetic oil will not necessarily work.

Why Does Using the Correct Amount of Oil Matter?

Adding extra oil isn’t a good way to provide additional engine lubrication. Overfilling can cause numerous issues, while running with too little oil can leave important components without adequate protection.

If you’re checking the oil level yourself, follow the procedure outlined in your owner’s manual. Depending on the vehicle, you can use a dipstick or an electronic monitoring system.
